Last week, the SingularityU Chile Summit was developed in Santiago de Chile. The event was organized by BeSTinnovation, and gathered together 14 experts in innovation, science and technology. It is the first time the Summit is developed in Latin America. Its goal was to connect and enhance the local innovation culture.
During the opening session, Barbara Silva, CEO of BeSTinnovation and Director of SingularityU Global in Chile said that innovative people thrive to find solutions for society and not for themselves. “With talent, passion, perseverance, and, above all, force of will, innovative people create new realities and encourage people and organisations to become agents of change”, she claimed.
Keynote speaker, Rob Nail, CEO of SingularityUniversity, pointed out that “what underlies in the concept of exponential technologies is information that empowers and that increases performance (…) we suffer from a lineal mind-set, focused on scarcity. We need to start thinking in abundance.”
Nail stated that the mission of SingularityUniversity is to educate, empower and inspire, while the Summit aims to collect unique ideas to think future ideas.
Other keynote speakers of the event were Brad Templeton, developer of and commentator on self-driving cars and software architect; Neil Jacobstein, who spoke about “Artificial Intelligence”; Raymond McCauley, an expert of “biotechnology experts”; Michael Gillam who referred to “the future of health and medicine”; Emeline Paat-Dahlstrom who addressed the “Great Global Challenges” and Dan Barry, astronaut, who spoke about “How to overcome stressful situations”.
“We are living a revolution that is transforming social and economic reality. Events such as the SingularityU Chile Summit enable us to think about the present and the future using new categories. Analysing disruption using outdated categories is a huge mistake. This was an inspiring event, which I hope shall be developed in other countries of Latin America”, said Martín Padulla, Founder and Managing Director of staffingamericalatina.
