By the end of April, the first SingularityU Chile Summit was developed in Santiago de Chile. The event was a meeting point for people interested in innovation and technology. It had 14 keynote speakers, top level experts of the Singularity University, located in Silicon Valley, US.
The event had quite an impact on the attendants, as well as on other people and organisations. Bárbara Silva, director of SingularityU Global in Chile and CEO of BeSTinnovation, said that there are plans to create an Innovation HUB in Chile. Silva claimed that thanks to the Summit, Singularity will have start having a stronger presence in Chile and the region. As a matter of fact, the first centre of this kind will be inaugurated in the Netherlands in May, and SingularityU has an eye set on Latin America.
Chile has numerous technology and innovation opportunities. For instance, Gregg Maryniak, keynote speaker of the summit and Chief of Energy and Environmental Systems at SingularityU, said that in the future the global demand of energy will be so huge that, in order to satisfy it with solar energy, the hemisphere where there is daylight will have to supply the other hemisphere.
Therefore, the next big challenge is energy storage. According to the expert, due to its geography, Chile has the capacity of becoming a solar energy lab. The desert is perfect for setting up plants that provide energy for the country and the region with a type of energy that is becoming less and less expensive as time goes by.
The Summit also made it possible to gain awareness of the developments in terms of Artificial Intelligence that make it possible to solve practical problems in simple ways. This area will continue to develop in the short and mid-term.
Clearly, the development of an innovation HUB with the support of SingularityU in Latin America would be a major step forward to the creation of tools, knowledge and technology that enhance growth, competitiveness and productivity in the entire region.
