The bill presented sets the obligation for companies with over 200 employees to close the gap of wages and bonus paid to men and women. In addition, the initiative establishes the creation of awareness campaigns for gender equity.
“2017 was a year characterized by a great commitment to gender equality agenda, which we must continue to work on during 2018. Therefore, we shall be working to enact a bill I introduced last year to determine the gender gap and the labour segregation that women endure, in order to generate the necessary equity conditions” said congresswoman Karina Banfi, member of the Unión Cívica Radical.
The cross-cutting approach of the gender equity agenda and the importance of human rights protection were endorsed by congresswomen from different parties, who supported this initiative.
Another bill presented by Banfi proposes creating an emblem to acknowledge those companies and/or organizations that include an internal management system that guarantees equal treatment and opportunities, and prevents discrimination between men and women.
The emblem aims at starting up a Management System on Gender Equality as the basis to gain the Men and Women Equality Seal, for private and public companies, including micro, small, medium and large companies. This System involves a series of procedures and organizations management practices that seek to transform human resources management and organizational processes, ensuring greater levels of equality in terms of opportunities, treatment, and results between male and female workers.
The goal is to reduce gender gaps in companies, by implementing a broad range of measures to guarantee equal opportunities, positive actions, and a gender cross-cutting approach.
