It shall be one of the first countries to develop the PAGE program. To achieve proper environmental sustainability, it shall be necessary to advance in the fight against informality.
The Ministry of Labour and Employment Promotion of Peru reported that the country shall be among the first to develop the initiative called: Partnership for Action on Green Economy (PAGE).
The program seeks to achieve environmental sustainability, creation of new jobs, general wellbeing improvement and promoting green skills for Peruvian workers.
PAGE is an initiative that has been implemented by the United Nations Program for the Environment, the International Labour Organization, the United Nations Organization for Industrial Development and the United Nations Institute for Professional Formation and Research.
During 2013, Peru strengthen the skills of 850 young people who live in regions such as Cusco, Puno, Huanuco, Junin and Ayacucho, by providing free courses about the transformation of coffee, cacao, fruits, dairy products, apiculture, crafts, chicken and guinea pigs breeding, among others.
According to official data, employment grew over the past 51 months and poverty levels have diminished. Complementing these with looking after the environment seemed a proper strategy.
The initial stage of PAGE in Peru, shall last two years (2015-2016). It will be important to move forward in this initiative by simultaneously attacking the problem of informality.
As regards temporary jobs, such as those jobs related to agriculture, it would be of vital importance to advance by ratifying ILO’s Convention no 181 about Private Employment Agencies. These companies shall become the most adequate strategic allies to reach a formal and inclusive green economy.
