The Indian Public Information Office announced in its Twitter account that the Indian cabinet decided to start negotiations to establish a commercial agreement with Peru.

Eduardo Ferreyros, minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur), highlighted the Indian government’s decision and pointed out that the country’s market offers great opportunities for Peruvian companies.

“In September, we managed to conclude the feasibility study that enabled us to identify the benefits of a commercial agreement with India… We had been waiting for India’s Cabinet to approve the study”, added the minister.

In 2012, a process to settle on a partial agreement was started; however, by 2013, the Indian government decided to pursue an agreement that included every good and service, and by 2014 the feasibility studies phase was started.

The commercial exchange between both countries was of about USD 1.523 million during 2015-2016. Peru mainly exports agricultural, agroindustrial and mineral concentrate products.
