According to the Peruvian National Institute of Statistics (INEI), the employed working population in Peru grew to 15.9 million people, out of whom 73.2% have an informal job. In other words, the largest share of this population has no access to fundamental rights such as benefits, vacations, unemployment protection, and health insurance, among others.

In this context, and aiming to tackle informality, Grupo EULEN, announced that during 2016 it increased its employability level 22%. This means that 1.264 formal jobs were created- In addition, the company expects to increase that figure an extra 20% during 2017.

“Every employment opportunity offered enables the access to the formal labor market of lots of Peruvians; who are either working for the first time or come from informality” said Karina Rose, Human Resources Director of Grupo EULEN Perú.

In addition, Rose reported that the formal employability figures in the country are rather discouraging and to this date Peru has not been capable of promoting the creation of formal employment at a proper pace. Implementing an efficient control system, mostly focused on communicating and assessing in better labor practices, and not solely in collecting taxes and punishing rule breakers. In addition, the administrative simplification in the labor aspect plays a key role, to prevent companies from having excessive costs for entering into formality.

Furthermore, tax benefits (such as in training for workers) and unifying criteria in the application of rules by the Ministry of Labor, would make it easier to make formal companies sustainable in time.
