The 3rd International Seminar on Mining Human Capital Management, Hrmining 2014, organized by Innovum Fundacion Chile and the company lGecamin, is being developed in Santiago de Chile,

Antofagasta plc’s CEO, Diego Hernández, is the President of the 3rd International Seminar on Mining Human Capital Management, Hrmining 2014, which started yesterday and will last till next Friday.

A few years ago, the issue that deeply concerned the mining industry was the shortage of qualified staff. Today, the challenge is to improve productivity. As this is an industry of commodities, the decisive variable to set a competitive advantage relies on human capital, especially given the complex scenery the industry currently faces.

This is the context in which, the 3rd International Seminar on Mining Human Capital Management, Hrmining 2014, under the slogan “Optimizing mining productivity through Human Capital”, is being developed.

The technical program includes over 40 presentations by authors coming from 6 countries, such as Australia, Chile, United States and Peru. The work themes include: better practices on people management, the strategic role Human Resources plays in reaching productivity, technical and professional skills’ development, and even virtuous relationships with supplier companies.

Starting today, 6 plenary talks and two discussion panels will be developed. These will have the participation of distinguished executives of the mining industry, who will talk about the challenges and approaches that should be in the agenda of productivity in the industry.

As a complementary activity to the seminar, a previous course was given on intergenerational conflict management.
