Mining has registered a strong increase in the jobs generated for the last years. Between 2010 and 2012 there was an advance of 24%.

However, this growth started to get stuck last year. According to figures given by the Mining Council, last year the mining created 928.000 jobs, only 1.3% more than 2012.

It is the lowest advance since 2006. In the mining industry explained that the little growth is related to the postponement of investments, since one of the areas where there are more demand of workers is the one connected with the construction of the new mining projects.

The suspension of the gold and silver Pascua Lama project is a clear example since in its stage of construction, it had three thousands workers direct and indirect.

This lower growth of employment in the sector has made workers look for options in the construction area. According to INE, this area registered an increase of 7% in the quantity of jobs generated.

Since 2010, the construction has been the sector which leaded the wage increases with a real increase of 16% and a nominal of 30,6%
