Chilean President, Sebastián Piñera, met with leaders of Apple, Amazon, Facebook and Google during a technological forum developed in the United States. The goal of the meeting was to analyze strategic alliances that may enable de country to move forward in terms of innovation and technology.
During the last phase of an international tour, Piñera was a keynote speaker at the Allen & Company Sun Valley Conference 2018, in Idaho, which was attended by the main leaders of the largest digital industry companies.
The president held individual meetings with the executive president of Apple, Tim Cook; the head of Google, Sundar Pichai; the founder and director of Amazon, Jeff Bezos; and the president of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg, among others.
Piñera stated that during these meetings different alliances with Chile were analyzed, particularly in issues such as healthcare, education, State’s modernization, and digital economy, “which shall be very useful and powerful to strengthen our economy and fully include us into the society of knowledge and information”.
These meetings have been taking place in a period in which Pinera is looking forward to increase investments to stimulate economic growth and transform the country into a services platform in the Southern Cone.
As a matter of fact, Pinera’s meeting with Bezos took place as the American company is analyzing to set a regional data processing center either in Chile or in Argentina, which would require a USD 1,000 million investment.
