According to a report elaborated by the Chilean newspaper Diario Financiero, the presence of Chilean capitals has been relevant in the US$9.987 million accumulated by Peru as direct foreign investment last year.

 

The growth of this indicator in Peru has been exponential, settling it as the second place with largest investment in the region after Brazil.

 

Chile is nowadays the six largest investor in Peru, with 6% participation on the entire direct foreign investment (IED). 62% of Chilean investment was destined to the services industry, particularly retail.
“There is plenty of evidence that they are investing in Peru. A lot of contracting business occurs in construction, mining, consulting, hydrocarbon… that are starting to take off. Also, several sectors that used to be not that relevant have grown”, said Juan Francisco Raffo, President of the Peruvian part of the Peruvian-Chilean Chamber of Commerce.

 

Chilean capital has consolidated in the energy, industrial, food and financial industries.
Alfonso García Miró, President of the National Confederation of Private Enterprise Institutions of Peru (Confiep), detects a flight of capital in Chile and an increase of investment in Peru in the past few months.

 

As regards labour markets, everything leads to think that the interaction of Chilean and Peruvian operations will raise workers mobility between both countries.
