WhatsApp will start to charge companies for sending customer service and advertising messages, stated the application owned by Facebook Inc. The app is facing a decrease in use, and income growth of its product.

The fee will be set with a fixed rate per confirmed delivery, going from 0.5 to 9 USD cents per message, depending on the country.

Facebook has been looking for ways to make money with WhatsApp as it faces growing costs, while it makes strong investments to improve its privacy.

WhatsApp, which has around 1,500 million users, stated that starting on Wednesday companies will be able to use WhatsApp Business API to send notifications, appointments’ reminders, and events’ tickets.

On January, the application announced it would start enables business accounts for the first time.

Facebook also stated that users will be able to check on the app and on Instagram how much time they spend on WhatsApp every day, and receive a notification when they surpass a limit set by themselves.
