If the person who starts reading these lines is Latin American and lives in the region, it is probable that he/she has never heard the brand Prestigio. However, it is probable, that soon, this brand will become familiar.
This hardware maker, whose origins are in Byelorussia, seems ready to play an important role in the Latin American market.
What does Prestigio do? They create low cost mobile devices and they offer them through direct sale. With this strategy, it has managed to compete with the most important brands in the sector in East Europe.
In Europe, they have achieved popularity thanks to their smartphones and tablets, however the history of the company has linked to the most traditional business: for a long time, they were one of the biggest providers of PCs for governments and for education sector in places like Cyprus, country where the main distributor has its headquarter.
With just a year of experience in the market of tablets and smartphones, the company has decided to expand to Latin America. In a year, they have managed to move almost USD 2 thousand million in hardware with rather simple strategy. Prestigio does not aim at becoming an exclusive brand or design brand. It focuses on decent technical specifications and a good quality.
Most of its tablets and smartphones are made with aluminum covers. This is not common for devices which have a cost lower than USD200 not even in brands such a Samsung or Motorola.
The MultiPAd 2 Prime Duo, for example, which is already available for sale in countries such as Colombia, Mexico and Chile, is an 8 inches tablet with a design similar to the Ipad Mini, a screen of 1024×768, dual core processor of 1.6GHz, 1GB of RAM with 16GB of expandable storage, produced with a Gorilla Glass panel, aluminum cover and a protective sleeve is included. Prestigio has launched four core tablets in 7 and 10 inches, which are also available in Latin America.
A new player comes to the market which an economical proposal of great quality and potential. Prestigio tablets are already being sold in Mexico, Chile and Colombia and soon, they will be available in more Latin American countries
