Last year, the first fingerprint detector integrated to a cellphone screen was presented by the Chinese company Vivo, but back then it was just a prototype.
The company announced that the technology is ready to be implemented on new cellphones during the CES fair, developed in Las Vegas, US.
This achievement represents a new era for cellphones. Vivo’s fingerprint reader is sort of invisible, as it is located just below that lower part of the screen, behind the panel and the glass.
Vivo claims that this fingerprint reader works just like traditional fingerprint readers that have been added in buttons.
With the advance of screen technologies, several manufacturers had to move the fingerprint reader to the back.
In theory, Vivo’s technology makes it possible to completely eliminate screen edges, without sacrificing the positioning of the fingerprint reader, as it shall be included in the screen.
For the time being, this technology only works in OLED screens, as the optical fingerprint reader makes it possible to detect what is above the panel and the glass of the screen.
Vivo team creates a graph in the screen to reflect the location of the fingerprint reader when it is blocked, but completely disappears when the phone is being used.
