The Dominican government launched the Program of Education Support and Technical Professional Training (PRO ETP II), with the support of the European Union and the Spanish Agency of International Cooperation (AECID).

The program’s goal is to reduce the gap in terms of skills and knowledge of productive sectors, improving education and vocational training’s quality.

To achieve such goal, it has been granted 1.85 million euros in financing, to be used at territorial entities, nonprofit organizations, and business organizations of the country that work on education and vocational training. The money will be used to finance public policies that impact youth employability through education and vocational training, and on initiatives that contribute to implement the National Qualifications Framework.

“This framework shall bring higher levels of coherence into the education system as a whole. Degrees only make sense if they actually reflect knowledge and skills that enable our youth to have equal conditions when taking part of the society and economy of the 21st century”, said Montalvo.

The main executing entities for the projects included under this program, will be the Ministries of Education, Superior Education, Science and Technology, Labour, Economics, Planning and Development, as well as the National Institute of Technical Professional Training (INFOTEP).

“The commitment of teachers, businessmen, union leaders, the government, and our partners of the international community has made it possible to keep on building the education we need to become the country we want to become”, said Montalvo.

He also thanked the European Union and the Spanish government, “on behalf of the Dominican government, and of every Dominican, thank you for joining us in this major educational transformation we are carrying on”.
