United Nations, Aug. 25. The International Labour Organization (ILO) informed today that 2.300.000 people die every year due to diseases and accidents related to work. There are around 860,000 accidents that cause injuries per day occurring at a workplace.
Direct and undirect cost of this problem goes to 2,800 billion dollars in the entire world, emphasized the organization.
ILO’ general director, Guy Ryder, outlined the fact that this is a human tragedy for which society and the economy pay a very high price.
The organization stated that investment on prevention is essential and encouraged countries to remember that the right to have a safe and healthy job is a basic guarantee that must be respected by everyone.
Experts from all around the world are gathering this week in Frankfurt, Germany, during the 20th world council in order to discuss strategies that promote safer and healthier jobs.
