Millennials are purpose-driven, and they look for innovation and collaboration opportunities.

A report developed by Deloitte and the Billie Jean King Leadership Initiative (BJKLI) states that millennials are now the majority of the workforce, and that more than half of them are already ascending into leadership roles and transforming business.

Actually, millennials are redefining the way we think about getting work done by prioritizing purpose-driven work. And in order to blend work with purpose, they are seeking technology that enables innovation, collaboration, and flexibility.

The report presents certain key factors in which millennials are transforming business’ cultures.

For instance, they prioritize purpose-driven organizations, and when they work in an organization that they consider lacks a sense of purpose, only 20% of them claim they are satisfied with their jobs. Besides, they do not believe that profit comes first.

This generation needs technology and craves for innovation. They tend to believe that companies should enhance and invest more in innovation. Besides, they think that organizations are not making the most of the skills and experience they own.

They also believe that work must fit into life and not the other way around. Therefore, they consider that a key strategy to retain talent is to provide flexible working conditions and work-life balance. As a matter of fact, less than 40% of millennials aspire to the most senior positions in an organization.

According to Deloitte and BJKLI, the findings represent a starting point to bridge capital between millennials and older generations, encouraging them to come together and collaborate on the right solutions.

Organizations that are able to see—and reevaluate—their cultures through the eyes of this new generation of workers will be able to retain millennial talent, remain competitive, and foster innovation.
