“We have to resign the sectoral protection of our economies to build a common future and foster the growth of an economy of quality”, said Emma Bonino, Foreign Affairs Ministry of Italy during the opening of VI Italy-Latin America and the Caribbean Conference held a few days ago in Rome.

Emma Bonino, Italian Foreign Affairs Ministry, ponderated the development experienced during the last years by Latin America and asked to their Latin American colleagues to bring the sectoral protectionism to an end

She made this requirement during the opening of the VI Italy-Latin America and the Caribbean Conference called Territorial and SME Development for the sustainable growth, integration and social cohesion, and, to open new cooperation links between Italy and Latin America and Caribe.

“We have to resign the sectoral protection of our economies to build a common future and foster the growth of an economy of quality”, said the Italian diplomatic to the 16 Latin American foreign affairs´ ministries which were in Farnesina, the headquarter of Foreign Affairs Ministry in Rome.

Bonino claimed that Latin America has to be a wide well-being territory linked to European Union and especially to Italy.

There has been an intimate relationship between Italy and Latin America for many generations. There is lots of Italian in Latin America and more than 2 million of them have Italian nationality which means a great interchange of ideas and links, a fundamental resource, explained Bonino

She also asked for a stronger collaboration between both regions to fight against the organized crime which has been favoured by globalization.

“The opportunities of globalization related with liberalization of interchanges and people circulation have been used by the organized crime to run their businesses and we have acted with delay” recognized Bonino.
