Freelancer.com, the largest online freelancing market, announced the acquisition of Nubelo and Prolancer, market leaders in the Spanish and Portuguese speaking markets that fall second place after Freelancer.com.

By acquiring the independent labor platforms, Nubelo and Prolancer, Freelancer.com extends its leadership in Latin America and in the Spanish and Portuguese speaking markets. This acquisition strengthens Freelancer.com leadership in these markets, putting every other competitor way behind them.

Nubelo was created in 2012, by the Spanish entrepreneur Francesc Font and the Argentinian twins, Nicolas and Jorge Araujo.  Based in Barcelona and financed by Caixa Capital Risc, Nero Ventures, South Ventures, Start-Up Chile, Cabiedes & Partners, Mountain Nazca & South Ventures, Nubelo quickly grew to become the largest freelancing platform of the Spanish speaking market, right after Freelancer.com. It has 50 employees in offices located in Barcelona, Buenos Aires, Bogota and Sao Paulo, Brazil.

In July 2015, Nubelo took control of Prolancer.com.br, a Brazilian platform founded by Sergio Mendez Baiges, with offices in Sao Paulo, in order to extend its reach in the Portuguese market. Together, they have grown successfully and reached 750,000 registered users and over 122,000 published projects.

After opening its offices in Buenos Aires, in 2016, Freelancer.com continues to invest and expand its leadership in the region. With this acquisition, Freelancer.com expects to increase the operations of its office in Buenos Aires for the region.

The Latin American region is one of the markets with largest growth for the company. When Freelancer.com started operating in Latin America, back in 2012, the Spanish and Portuguese speaking market used to represent less than 0.2% of the company’s operation. Today, it represents almost 10% of Freelancer.com’s operations, with over 1.8 million users, who have published over 502,000 projects. Nubelo and Prolancer are expected to extend this growth significantly.

Nicolas Araujo, Co-founder and CFO of Nubelo pointed out that “this is an opportunity that every founding partner of the company decided to take. The passionate working process that we live in and with Nubelo enabled us to understand the IT labor market. This acquisition will grant great benefit to our users and we are very proud that a company such as Freelancer.com took notice of our hard and valuable work to build Nubelo and position it as a leader in the Spanish speaking market.”

Sergio Mendez, CEO of Prolancer, added “after four years of hard and intense work, I am very satisfied that the largest and most important freelance work platform of the world is taking our users to the next level, offering them more and better job offers and access to the best talent of the world.”

“This acquisition strengthens our global presence and our international expansion, consolidating our platform as a leader not only of the English speaking market, but also of the Spanish and Portuguese speaking market. We welcome Nubelo and Prolancer users to our community, where they will find over 10,000 new labor opportunities per day, and the chance of working with our talented community of 22 million users”, said Matt Barrie, CEO of Freelancer.com.
