How will we organize ourselves for our working days in the next 50 years? This question has been made by the French newspaper Figaro to different experts in employment organization and they agree in issues such as that retirement will have disappeared as it is today and hierarchy structures will be flatter. Some predictions for the second half of the century:
We will work more time but in shorter periods. In 2053, experts agree that we will be working more time but the periods will be shorter. This is a consequence of the fact that people will live longer and therefore will work more years. However, wewon´t work so many hours per day.
The idea of retirement will disappear. The concept of retiremenet will be useless. In fact, Unions agree the retirement implies also a retirement from social life, something which is not happening nowadays, since many professionals go on helping at work, even though they are officially retired
Robots will be in charge of manual jobs. In 10 years´time, robots will be able to imítate really well even human gestures. At the moment, there are many patents of autonomous robots doing concrete actions of manual jobs.
The office as a concrete place will have disappeared. The concept of co-working, which refers to open areas where people work independently, is fashionable nowadays and will go on growing. The advantages of teleworking are being accepted and even though there will still keep a corporate site, this will be much smaller and people will only go there when necessary..
All members´opinion will be taken into account. As a contrast with the leadership model, the opinion of all the members involved in a project will be considered. This means that hierarchy structures in companies will become flatter.
Alternative actions will become the law. The career model, in which a person is trained for a specific job and then does that job all his/her life will disappear. In fact, people will change jobs and roles as to have a general knowledge of the sector, something which big multinational companies are already doing in their knowledge programs.
Monitoring technology will be developed. This wide concept of “collaborator” can make companies find it difficulties to know who is doing more for the company. This is why, some experts predict that technology will be used to control work performance. An example of this, could be the installment of chips in the computers.
