The Colombian Public Employment Service (SPE) has published information that brings new light on its’ labour market. For the first time the market is analysed from the companies’ demands perspective.

The study uses a data basis that gathers 415.018 job vacancies registered during 2014 by employers in every Colombian employment website- SENA, employment agencies and universities’ employment search engines-.

The analysis enabled ranking the most demanded job vacancies and average salaries for different job positions. The most demanded jobs include: business advisors (19.842), sellers (16.638), warehouse assistants (6.700), call centre customer services’ advisors (4.200) and system engineers (2.042).

Around 270.000 job seekers found a job during 2014, covering 65% of vacancies. The SPE estimates that by 2015, 350.000 people shall find a job.

The study also states that the city with greater employment probabilities is Bogota, with 52% of vacancies, followed by Medellin with 6, 8% and Cali with 4 4%.

Regarding the educational level, percentages are rather similar: 35, 9% of vacancies are aimed to people with a high school degree, 35, 1% to professionals and 29% to people with technical degrees.

During 2014, the most difficult job positions to cover were: specialized doctors, nutritionists and occupational health staff; accounting assistants and welders. The main causes that led for a job position not to be covered were: candidates asked for salaries higher than what the employers had to offer; or they did no have the necessary working experience or they lacked the set of skills demanded by companies.
