On 20 April, Sandro Pettineo (Ciett Policy Advisor) spoke at the International Training Centre of the ILO (ITC-ILO) on the role of private employment services in the changing world of work and on cooperation of public – private employment services.

Pettineo pointed out the role of private employment services, including:

  • Enabling work: by bringing 71.9 million people into the labour market.
  • Enabling adaptation: it supports more than 5 million companies in navigating the evolving labour markets.
  • Enabling security: it helps people enter the labour market and remain employed.
  • Enabling prosperity: it provides companies with HR solutions to increase their turnover.

The event was part of a training course organised by the employment policy department of the ILO on ‘Effective labour market policies and employment services’. The goal was to take a deep look at active labour market policies and at ways to strengthen employment services.

Training helped national actors to update their knowledge and skills related to the current challenges faced by employment services and in the optimal implementation of labour market programmes.

The workshop gathered together policy makers, directors, technical officers of public or private employment services and other agencies, in charge of labour and employment related issues, as well as workers’ and employers’ organisations and other stakeholders involved in designing, managing and accessing labour market programmes and employment services.
