Despite the political and economic crisis that the country is going through, the Information Technology sector remains vital and becomes increasingly more necessary for the corporate area.
According to Antonio Loureiro and Marcelo Vianna, founding partners of Conquest One, a Brazilian consulting firm specialized in IT outsourcing, the projects that were paused in 2015 are being resumed. One of the factors that have a positive impact in the sector’s demand are the Olympic Games, to be developed in Rio de Janeiro this year.
However, a negative aspect is the lack of qualified professionals to fill the existing and future job vacancies in the IT sector. Brazilian professionals have difficulties in keeping updated and lack global knowledge. Therefore, there are difficulties to satisfy companies’ demands. This is one of the reasons for wages in the sector to remain higher than in other economic activities.
In addition, the competition in the sector is global. If a company has difficulties hiring qualified professionals in a country, it will turn to other countries to find these professionals.
A thriving area for IT professionals in Brazil is the development of applications for smartphones. It is a wide market, plenty of opportunities for those seeking to invest in IT.
Loureiro and Vianna agree on the fact that finding a proper balance for the demand and supply of IT professionals demands reflecting on the need of developing a national projects focused on training professionals for the technological sector.
