The trip was scheduled due to complaints to the organization that the Labor reform infringes international standards

The Labor reform minister in the Chamber of Deputies, Rogério Marinho, traveled to Geneva, Switzerland, to defend the labor reform at the International Labor Organization (ILO).

According to the deputy, the trip was made “at the invitation of the Brazilian chancellery” after the trade union centrals and the Public Ministry of Labor (MPT) denounced that the reform violates international standards. The visit was made two weeks ago.

Marinho said he met with ambassadors and members of the UN and the ILO, with support from the local Brazilian team. “Brazil is modernizing its law to generate new jobs, without jeopardizing any rights earned by the worker,” the deputy said in a statement.

On Tuesday, the ILO, which is mobilized in Geneva for the International Labor Conference, has released a list of 24 countries that will have to provide clarification on possible disregard of the organization’s standards. This list includes countries such as Malaysia, Poland, Ukraine, United Kingdom, Venezuela and Paraguay. Brazil is not among them, but the lawsuit against the country is not finalized, according to the ILO press office.

ILO still awaits information from the country, although it has not convened Brazil. One of the complaints made is that the country would be having anti-union practices. The Brazilian case will be analyzed by the organization.
