Stephanie Vozza recently wrote an article for FastCompany about the 10 words you should not use in your LinkedIn profile.
A clear example is the word “motivated”, which is the most overused word among LinkedIn users. The next two words are “passionate” and “creative”.
The problem is that if everybody shares these attributes, these words tend to lose their meaning. People use them because these are easy words that they believe recruiters like.
The list of words to avoid also includes: driven, extensive experience, responsible, strategic, track record, organizational and expert.
Vozza’s advice is to provide actual proof of your working attributes. For instance, you may post an example of your work and describe how eager you were to develop it.
Also, take into account that most people are very visual, so a slide share, an infographic or a video shall have greater impact than written text. In addition, write an interesting, eye catching headline and list your set of skills in your profile.
The final advice is to update your profile frequently, share content and get involved in group discussions that are relevant in your industry.
