During the “IV Global Conference on the Sustained Eradication of Child Labour”, the General Director of the International Labour Organization (ILO), Guy Ryder, held meetings with union leaders, businessmen, and the Argentinian president, Mauricio Macri.
Ryder stated that in a private meeting President Macri assured him that “next year and under his presidency of the G20, will intent to debate the issue of the future of work”.
The future of work will be the main topic of ILO’s annual meeting during 2018.
Regarding the labour reform, which is being debated in Argentina, he said that “even though I will not give my opinion on this issue, I believe that it is important that there is a dialogue with the business and union sectors, as in many countries these reforms are not debated”.
In addition, Ryder celebrated the fact that Argentina is leading the Global Conference on the Sustained Eradication of Child Labour, and, once again, there is local data on this issue.
Ryder said he is optimistic about the advance towards the goal of definite elimination on a global level of child labour by 2025. This problem currently affects 152 million kids.
He believes there is no obstacle to reach this goal, even if a country is poor or underdeveloped.
He made an emphatic call for Buenos Aires to be the place where the intolerable stops being tolerated.
