ABI Research expects the number of organizations in the entire world that implement artificial intelligence technologies (AI) to grow considerably, going from 7,000 in 2017 to almost 900,000 by 2022. This equals an annual growth rate of 162%.
Advances in cloud processing, storage capacity and automatic learning algorithms will enable computer systems to beat human beings in strategy or television programs. And companies are increasingly applying these technological advances to offer automation and innovation that equals or exceed human capacities.
Jeff Orr, research director of ABI Research believes that, “even though almost a million companies will adopt AI by 2022, it will not be a major adjustment for every company. Many firms will have to adapt their corporate government policies to face the lack of a guaranteed result when implementing automatic learning”. And he adds “though most companies are starting to use automatic learning to analyze their current business, technologies have a far-reaching application in specific industries, including the reduction of false positives in fraud detection, to the development of conversation interfaces for chatbots and virtual assistants”, he states.
In spite of the fact that some of the largest and most innovative companies in the world, such as Amazon, American Express, Citrix, Coca Cola, Facebook, Google, Netflix, PayPal and Uber, already implement projects driven by automatic learning, ABI Research considers that not everyone will benefit from this. The organizations that feel comfortable with uncertainty in results and that measure changes in key performance indicators (KPI), will make de most of the implementation of automatic learning projects. However, those companies that solely focus on investment returns, will find emerging technologies, including automatic learning, cybersecurity, and IoT, frustrating to implement and difficult to measure.
There are several SaaS Solutions available for automatic learning and companies that want to experiment will have many vendors to choose from. The best practices include starting with a pilot project and requesting case studies on companies that have already gone through their first operational deployment. “Those organizations that chose to completely ignore IA will have a competitive disadvantage”, concludes Orr.
