The IDB’s office of Strategic Alliances acknowledges the 100 leader listed companies in Latin America for their efforts in terms of sustainability.
The IDB published its own sustainability index. IndexAmericas is the first development index elaborated by a multilateral organization. As regards methodology, it was developed together with Thomson Reuters and S-Network with a double score’s layer. The first, measures over 6,000 companies on a global level, 600 of which have operations in Latin America, and analyzes them according to sustainability criteria. The second layer includes a set of indicators of the IDB-CII that acknowledges additional efforts made by companies in terms of development.
The ranking evaluates practices, standards, policies and activities of companies according to 172 indicators that asses their social, environmental, governance and development contributions.
The academic support for IndexAmericas is provided by the Florida International University (FIU) Business School and its Capital Markets Lab.
“We are facing a society that demands a sense of purpose, and that makes consumption decisions according to companies’ management. This index, focused on development, shall provide answers to many Latin Americans who wonder about the role of the private sector”, said Luis Alberto Moreno, IDB’s president.
Policies and actions regarding corporate integrity, transparency, CO2 emissions, efficiency, environmental care, innovation, diversity, human development, employment creation and the impact on vulnerable communities were analyzed in order to develop the report.
