According to the report “Chileans pending ideas, plans and projects”, developed by Nescafe and GFK Adimark, one out of every three Chileans dream about becoming entrepreneurs.
According to a survey developed among 1,312 respondents over 15 years old of the groups C1, C2, C3 and D from all over the country, most Chileans (91.2%) have a pending idea or project. And the percentage is even higher among people aged 25 to 34 years old (94.5%).
Among men, the main project is to start their own business (21.9%) and among women, to travel (23.6%).
Around 64% of the survey respondents believe that starting their own business is possible.
“The fact that Chileans yearn to start their own projects is linked to the need of purpose and of connecting work with people’s life style, values and dreams”, explains Diego Uribe, general manager at idemax, Creative Centre for Innovation.
“This is something that the labour market is not offering as much as we would want it, particularly among youth, whose values go beyond making money and paying the bills”, he claims.
Though this is a career choice that may demand harder work and efforts, “it can provide freedom to arrange your schedules, and to mix life and work as you want. It means living a significant life”, says Uribe.
This clearly is a signal for the educational system, which must not only adjust its contents to the labour market reality to help citizens get a job, but it must also grant the tools they need to become good entrepreneurs.
