For over 12 years the firm Quacquarelli Symonds has been evaluating the best universities of the world by developing the QS Graduate Employability Rankings 2016.
On this year’s edition, around 90% of the top 800 universities of the world participated of the ranking. The study analyses the potential that the students of these institutions have of being hired. In other words, it examines the universities’ employability.
In order to do so, the study evaluates five key points:
- Reputation among employers
- Relations with employers
- Outstanding former students
- Employers’ presence in campus
- Employability rate 12 months upon graduation.
On a global level, the universities with the best scores were: University of Stanford, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, University of Harvard –the three of them located in the US-, University of Cambridge in England and the University of Yale (also in the US).
In Latin America, the top five universities were: Technological Institute of Monterrey (ITESM), University of Sao Paulo, Catholic University of Chile, University of the Andes (Colombia) and the National University of Colombia.
As regards Mexican institutions, only the ITESM and the National University of Mexico (UNAM) appear in the QS Graduate Employability Rankings 2016. The ITESM got position N°21 with a score of 72 points, while the UNAM was N°131, with 39 points.
Even though Argentina has no institutions among the local top 5, two Argentinian universities made it into the regional top 10: University Austral was N°6 and the Catholic University of Argentina was N°10.
