The Chilean Business Association AGEST, together with ILO consultants, launched a document that sets an international and self-regulatory standard for subcontracting and temporary services companies. The document has still to be approved by the board of the association.

On December 17th, in ILO’s offices in Santiago de Chile and in front of a large audience, the Chilean Association of Human Resources Outsourcing Companies (AGEST) together with the International Labour Organization (ILO), launched a code developed by the international consultant, Martin Padulla, which contains practices that demand member companies to comply with high standards of ethics and quality.

During the event, the director of Staffingamericalatina and creator of the code, explained the building process of this self-regulation instrument, which was developed with the collaboration of different international authorities, and strategic allies, such as CIETT and Staffing Industry Analysts.

“The best way to set active employment policies demands enabling the development of public-private articulations that tend to improve employability in the country. There are very interesting and successful cases of joint actions that aim to develop employment training opportunities based on demand, such as the Netherlands, United Kingdom, France and Germany”, said Martin Padulla, referring to one of the main recommendations the code includes.

The president of AGEST and general manager of Manpower Chile, Sara Smok, who leaded this initiative, mentioned the advances of the subcontracting and temporary services Act, and highlighted the Association’s role in the labour market. “By publishing this Code of Fair Labour Practices, AGEST is committing to confirm our dialogue, setting a milestone in the industry and generating a tool to constructively discuss our commitment with the future”, stated Smok.

The activity was also attended by ILO’s Main Specialist of Employers’ Activities, Andres Yuren and by relevant players of the labour scene, such as the adviser of the Ministry of Economy, Roberto Godoy and the former Director of Labour, Marcelo Albornoz.
