In a context where private employment falls and public employment grows, 2014 ended with a significant drop for temporary employment services.
According to data from INDEC (National Statistics Institute), during 2014, formal private employment registered a fall, while public employment continued to grow.
In Argentina there are 16 million workers, among whom 11million contribute to social security and 5 million are informal workers.
Official data shows that there has been a drop of 42, 2% in the employment rate, which means that 300.000 workers lost their jobs.
The areas where employment grew were Agriculture-Livestock and Mining, Financial Services, and Private Education. Nevertheless, the area with the largest employment growth was the public sector, where almost 64.000 new jobs were created.
The most affected sectors were Manufacture, Construction and Retail Trade.20.000jobs were lost in Manufacture, particularly in the automotive industry and, in a smaller scale, in the textile and shoe industry. In Construction, 5.000 jobs were lost while in retail there are 3.000 jobs less than during the previous year.
The most important downfall was registered in temporary employment services: from 69.666 jobs in 2013, there were 52.834 jobs registered in 2014, which means almost a 25% fall.
