A virtual observatory that will help young people enter the labour market quickly has been recently launched.

On November 14th the Peruvian Ministry of Labour and Employment Promotion (MTPE) together with the Ministry of Education (Minedu) and the Peruvian Institute of Business Action (IPAE), launched the Web Observatory of Education and Employment “Ponte en carrera”. It is expected that the project will help young people quickly enter the labour market.

Fredy Otarola, Minister of Labour and Employment Promotion stated that “a major problem affecting the economy is the lack of articulation between the educational offer and the labour demand, which prevents young people from quickly entering the labour market. The reason is they do not have relevant information about the different options they would have if the followed a professional course of study”.

The main goal of the observatory is to help youngsters make better decisions based on the needs and conditions of the market. This means that young people shall have the information about which careers are pertinent regarding the demands of the market and the payments they should expect for following. Therefore, it should be easier for them to put aside those careers that do not match expectations.

Otarola said that “the labour sector is aiming to favour young people who are going from education to employment and those who are already working, in order to improve the human talent in the country.”

The observatory will also focus on people who are already working in order to help them gain knowledge on workforce and to redirect their careers through continuous training.

The MTPE has made the commitment to provide and update information on labour demand as well as on the number of hired people and the employability of those who graduate from superior education institutes. Also, young people shall have information on the profitability of following post-secondary education.
