The meeting was particularly addressed to government representatives, and workers and employers’ organizations. The goal was to discuss the main trends and analyse the challenges that the region and Paraguay face in terms of formalization of the economy.
The course included lectures from experts on labor informality, including Fabio Bertranou, director of the ILO offices of the Southern Cone; Juan Chacaltana, Labor Economy specialist of the ILO Regional Office, and the offices of the Southern Cone; Ernesto Abdala, Specialist of ILO Paraguay; David Gljberman, Regional Consultant in Decent Work Indicators; Gerhard Reinecke, main specialist in Employment Policies; Carlos Rodríguez, specialist in Activities with Workers; Lorenzo Peláez, specialist in Activities with Employers; Pablo Casalí, specialist in Social Protection and Oscar Cetrángolo, professor at the University of Buenos Aires and ILO Consultant.
The topics addressed included: informality and Decent Work in Latin America, statistical measurements of informality, strengthening of labor institutionalism, workers and employers’ organizations perspectives on the transition towards formality, the extension of social security and international experiences of policies to promote formality.
