Former General Director of ILO, Juan Somavía, has been designed as the new Director of Academia Diplomatica Andres Bello (Chile).

This desgination is aligned to the objective of achieving a solid education for the future chilean diplomatics to face the challenges of 21st century.

Somavía was General Director of ILO between 1999-2012. He was the first representative of South Hemisphere leading that international institution. Besides, he was member of Monetary and Finance Committee of IMF.

He was Chilean Ambasador for the Andean Pact and Permanente Representative of Chile in the UN (New York) where he was President of the Social Economy Council and the Security Council in 1996 and 1997.

Developing this last position, he led the organization of the World Forum of Social Development, celebrated in Copenhague.

Juan Somavía is Lawyer (Universidad Catolica Chile) and has studies about Economic Development fro the Lawyer and Economy Faculty of Pariis University.

Nowadays is advisor of the General Secretary of UN, Ban Ki-Moon, service that he will go on developing
