The General Council of the International Organization of Employers (IOE), gathered in Genève –Switzerland- in June 4th, chose Daniel Funes de Rioja unanimously as their president, who is starting his term of office this month.

Such a distinction leads Dr Funes de Rioja towards the greatest responsibility in his international career, both in IOE as in the ILO. Funes de Rioja has worked in ILO during the past 14 years on different positions, such as Executive Vice-president, business leader and Vice-President of the Administration Council.

Funes de Rioja shall represent employers throughout the world in every international area and forum where social and labour issues are discussed.

Since the beginning of the IOE, its presidents have been either European or American. Funes de Rioja is the first Latin American leader to become the leading voice among employers worldwide regarding labour and social issues.

Since it was established in 1920, the IOE is the leading voice on labour and social matters within the business world on an international level. Specifically, within the ILO, it has an institutional role in the tripartite government of the organization. The IOE action are implemented within the entire United Nations system and, more recently, through an active participation in the G20.

Funes de Rioja has a vast experience in the business and professional field in Argentina. He is a University Professor, the Academic Vice-President of the National Academy of Business Sciences. He also presides the Coordination of Food Products Industries (COPAL) and is one of the Vice-Presidents of the Argentinian Industrial Union (UIA). He is the Founder of one of the most prestigious labour law firms in his country.
