The Colombian government introduced a bill on first employment. The aim of this initiative is to reduce the youth unemployment rate 10 13.8% by 2018. One of the key points of the bill is to provide tax incentives to companies that promote employment among young people.
The introduction of the bill was announced during the opening conference of the forum “Promoting the development of alternatives to stimulate youth employment”, organized by the Colombian Ministry of Labour and the World Bank. During the event certain key issues were discussed. For example, the factors that lead to the failure and success of the mechanisms that promote the link of young unexperienced people to the labour market were analysed and Colombia’s work on this regard was compared to the work done in other countries.
