The investment to be made in its plant in Anchieta will be used to modernize assembly lines, where the new model Polo is being produced and where the production of sedan Virtus will start during the 1st quarter of 2018.
The international automotive company, Volkswagen announced an investment of BRL 2,600 million (around USD 812 million) for its factory located in Anchieta, Sao Bernardo do Campo, Brazilian state of Sao Paulo (southern east).
The investment will be used to modernize assembly lines where the new model Polo is being produced and where the production of sedan Virtus will start during the 1st quarter of 2018.
It was announced during the 60 years celebration of the facility and is among the BRL 7,000 million (USD 2,190 million) investments plan announced in November 2016, to be concluded in 2020.
“The investment just announced includes engineering work and preparation of the assembly line in Anchieta to receive several models”, said the president of Volkswagen in Brazil and South America, David Powels.
The new platform will enable of compact products and a van, which’s launches are expected for 2018 and 2019, respectively.
The investment shows the level of process automation and the development of new technologies, as the company does not expect to hire new workers.
In addition, according to Powels, the market’s slowdown of the past three years prevents the growth of the payroll.
With this investment, the company expects to recover its importance in the national market.
