Business leaders and educators debated about future leaders’ formation within a disruptive environment.
The Global Leadership Conference organized by the IESE Business School left a clear result: business schools must adapt in order to educate leaders to manage the Future of Work by providing new competences, entrepreneur initiative and innovation capacity.
Tendencies that shall determine business education in the future:
1. Digital disruption
Social network and digital technologies are a reality that have greatly impacted on the life of people, companies and business schools. The latter must be capable of offering a quick answer to their clients needs with an approach adapted to such needs. The easy access to general contents and information creates the great challenge of achieving a more personal experience.
2. Turning towards emerging markets
Multinational companies are focused in developing business in emerging economies. This presents several challenges: they must be agile, quickly understand the local culture and take decisions faster. Business school must develop a cosmopolitan perspective, generating theory that enables the understanding of cultural differences, working on aspects related to emotional intelligence and adaptation to change.
3. New methods for solving problems
To become an innovative professional, it is necessary to change rhetorical thinking to critical thinking. These competences may be developed if business formation improves its capacity to think over problems and leads innovations in human terms, creating opportunities that allow students to practice problem’s solving committing their own mistakes.
4. Learning through experience
Being an entrepreneur or an innovator is something you learn by doing. For such reason, business schools must develop complex systems to ensure their students may interact with incubators, accelerators, business networks, social companies, private investors, in-company projects, conferences and activities with former entrepreneur students.
5. New values
Educators may stimulate future innovation if they take as an example those people who are carrying out meaningful contributions to society. Concepts such as sustainability seem to be the key for the development of high impact entrepreneurs.
