Uruguay remains at the forefront in Latin America and is number four in the world when it comes to ratifications of conventions from the International Labour Organization (ILO), pointed out Ernesto Murro, Uruguayan Minister of Labour and Social Security, during the annual performance review.

Murro referred to the unanimous ratification that the legislative power granted on December 5th to the bilateral convention on social security with the United States, which shall enable temporary specialized staff migrations between both countries for up to five years.

He also pointed out the Chamber of Deputies’ Labour Legislation Commission’s unanimous approval of the Convention 171 of ILO on night work.

“It is an initiative of the Executive Power, and we would like to congratulate the members of parliament from every party who unanimously voted for it. Soon, the convention will be passed in the Chamber of Deputies and in the Chamber of Senates”, he said.

As regards the unified Labour Form, a system defined a “revolutionary and historical”, he said it is working very well. Around 25,000 firms use it to consult on Wages Advice and by another 37,000 to consult on Labour Forms. In addition, around 200,000 workers were registered in the system.

He explained that, in just two months, the new system has reduced phone calls received from 998 to 24. “The system is working, and this indicator proves it”, he claimed.
