According to information published by Forbes México, the tripartite commission signed a wage convention that sets an 8.25% increase of the minimum wage for workers of the free trade zones.

The president of the National Commission of Free Trade Zones (CNZF), Álvaro Baltodano, said that the sector aims at generating 150,000 jobs by 2020 or 2021.

Baltodano acknowledges that, in order to reach that goal, there must be a growth in manufacture, supply chain, productivity in the rural sector and an expansion of the agroindustry.

“We expect to reach 150,000 jobs, which is the goal we have. Since 2009, we have achieved a total number of 115,000 jobs. Back in 2009 there were 69,000 jobs, and now there are 115,000. The goal is to have 150,000 jobs by 2020 or 2021”, said Baltodano.

The pay agreement was signed among the government, businessmen and unions, and it states that free trade zone workers will have a +8.25% annual increase of their minimum wages.

This is the fourth agreement made by the tripartite commission and it extends for the longest period of time.

The president of the Superior Council of Private Firms (Cosep), José Adán Aguerri, said that the common denominator of the four agreements is the effort made by the three parties to meet and develop a dialogue that has been rather difficult to accomplish in Nicaragua.
