The “silver economy“, is the economy focused on the segment of the population that is over 50 years old. It is estimated that this group of people will generate over one third of the total numbers of jobs in Europe by 2025.
According to Peter Wintlev-Jensen, director of Programs for the European Commission, 37.8% of jobs will be developed in areas such as mobility, healthcare, and innovative markets to satisfy the needs of those who are over 50 years old.
Estimations state that we live 3 extra months per year thanks to medical and technological advances, and that such advances will continue to exist as people over 50 years old will represent a growing weight for the economy of the continent with the oldest population in the world.
There are several voices calling European administrations to promote public policies that encourage integration and the appreciation of the “silver economy” as market with potential growth. There are sectors, such as healthcare which shall experience spectacular growth in the years to come.
