The state-of-the-art plant is one of the largest in the world and shall create thousands of jobs.
There are several important facts: it is the fastest built construction completed in Kia’s history with only 13 months of work; it is one of the largest plants in the world, with an area of over 500 hectares and it was inspired in Mexican traditions with a tribute to “Teotihuacan” included in its entrance.
The inauguration of this plant are very encouraging news for Mexico. It has cutting-edge technology to ensure environmental safeguard, such as the use of green technologies to reduce CO2 emissions, renewable energy sources and a water treatment plant that prevent water contamination.
The annual capacity of the plant is of 300.000 units, a figure that shall be 10% of Kia’s global production. About 60% of the output will be distributed in North America, 20% in Mexico and the remaining 20% in Latin America.
After thorough tests and pilot production, the most promising product of the plant will be the production of the Kia Cerato, which is expected to start by the middle of 2016.
The president of Kia Motors Mexico, Seong-Bae Kim, stated that “Once mass production commences, it will take less than one minute for a vehicle to come off the assembly line, making our facility among the most productive among all Kia plants globally.””.
Kia Motors has already started its commercial operations in Mexico, with 46 authorised dealers in the country, creating over 70.000 jobs. The development of this plant means a great improvement for the American market and the company expects to accomplish its goal of global expansion.
