Sebastián Zirpolo has written an article recently published in an Argentinian magazine called Brando. The article is about Aula 365 and its’ creator, Pablo Aristizabal.
Aula 365 is a social network that was created 10 years ago, aimed for students who are in primary school. Its goal is to provide a new paradigm on education, where students become the creators of new content. The core ideas on which Aula 365 is based are: “participate, learn, innovate and create”.
Currently, this social network has over 5 million followers who are located all over Latin America. These kids are encouraged to create and share through videogames, online comics and augmented reality.
According to Aristizabal, kids must feel they are acquiring new skills that shall prove to be useful and competitive in the knowledge society they live in. Aula 365 is based on the idea that many of these skills –technology, innovation, collaboration, and negotiation- can only be properly learnt by practicing them.
He states that, contrary to common beliefs, children being apathetic is not a real problem. As a matter of fact, there are conversations and places where kids become enthusiast and participate a lot.
Aristizabal provides a definition of Classroom as a place that can be located anywhere, where conversations regarding the curricula are developed, people build ideas and projects together and knowledge is celebrated.
One of the goals of Aula 365 is to generate entrepreneurs. Aristizabal says these are people who work in different areas and organizations, who share the attribute of being innovative and working as agents of transformation searching for new opportunities all the time.
From his point of view the creation of real development of labour in this century is only possible with a framework of thousands of entrepreneurs working as agents of change, sustaining our society‘s competitiveness, providing work for themselves and increasing employment.
In addition, Aristizabal seeks to generate a teacher model with imagination, who shall work more as a facilitator, helping students in the learning process and encouraging them to develop, outdo themselves and grow.
