The United Nations (UN) is working out the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) that shall replace the Millennium Development Goals.
In order to create the new development agenda, the UN has gathered political leaders and experts to analyze and discuss how to deal with the demographic change that a large part of the world is experiencing, as there are population where young people are the majority and jobs must be created for them.
Within this framework, Ban Ki-moon, Secretary General of UN urged governments to promote the creation of youth employment. In addition he warned that the lack of work results in the creation of insecurity and it complicates the stability of countries.
The Secretary also stated that there is a great “waste of human capital” as over 70 million youngsters around the world are unemployed. He stated that young people shall create a better future if they have decent jobs and gain political weight and influence. Therefore, he claimed that it is important to empower young people.
