According to the Peruvian newspaper Gestion, the Inter-American Development Bank (IADB) has discovered that young Peruvians finish their college or technical studies without acquiring the skills needed to find a proper job.

The IADB and the International Labour Organization (ILO) developed a research that led to the conclusion that short, medium and long term reforms are needed in Peru’s training systems.

The study discovered the following four major problems regarding the Peruvian training system: lack of institutional coordination; little access and scarce financing for young people who come from low-income households; low quality and lack of pertinence in labour training; and little information for young people to learn which are the careers the labour market demands and which institutions offer quality training.

The reforms IADB suggests aim to aid Peru in solving these problems in a gradual and systemic way. The most important recommendations are: creating a labour training system that enhances institutional articulation; and creating an institution that provides support to such coordination and that manages the training system.

In addition, the importance of matching young people’s training with the market’s needs was highlighted. Consequently, the IADB is seeking to enhance communication opportunities between these sectors.
