The consulting firm Quacquarelli Symonds, has developed a ranking of the Top 100 cities with greatest labour opportunities for recent graduates in 2016. The criteria used to develop the ranking was to determine the cities with the largest percentage of graduates that are looked for by employers and recruiters on a national and international level. In addition, other index and surveys were used, such as youth employment figures per country published by the World Bank.
The top 10 cities in the ranking are:
Tokyo, Japan
This Cosmopolitan city is one of the three financial centres of the world –together with London and New York-. Therefore, it is the city that offers the greatest amount of labour and internship opportunities for students, nationally and internationally.
Boston, United States
In this city two of the most prestigious universities of the world are located –Harvard and the MIT–, which make Boston have a very high number of graduates with excellent reputation.
London, England
Though expensive, this city provides great opportunities for those who seek to pursue their careers in finances, corporate, media and arts.
Beijing, China
This city has universities that are strongly appreciated on an international level– such as Tsinghua, Peking-. Besides, it has a great capacity of producing successful graduates in the labour market.
Seoul, South Korea
This city has a rich culture, history and creativity, as well as a solid reputation in terms of labour opportunities for recent graduates.
Melbourne, Australia
Great opportunities for recent graduates in a very tolerant society.
Buenos Aires, Argentina
It is the Latin American city that ranks highest. It offers lots of labour opportunities for recent graduates –both national and international-, and it has a very interesting and rich cultural life and prestigious universities.
Singapore, Republic of Singapore
This city has an intense and well-known corporate life, therefore, its’ graduates are truly wanted all over the world.
Sidney, Australia
Australia’s financial and economic centre, home to five top level universities and one of the best cities to live in according to The Economist.
Paris, France and Shanghai, China
Both cities have the same score. Paris has several prestigious universities and a relatively low living cost for students when compared to other cities. Shangai is one of the port-cities with greatest levels of activity in the world, which makes it a financial, commercial, cultural and educational centre on a global scale.
