According to an article published in La Nación, Buenos Aires is the home of the first coffee shop to accept the virtual coin in Latin America.

It is called Bitcoffee, it is located in Buenos Aires’ downtown and it stands out because it is the first café in the region where you can pay with bitcoins. Matias Caputi, a computer engineer and owner of this entrepreneurship, states that Bitcoffee is a place where people can relax and be in touch with technology but not become overwhelmed by it.

The idea to use bitcoins as a payment method emerged after several customers asked whether this was a possible alternative. Even though the amount of people who use bitcoins in Argentina is small, the development of the currency is growing.

Legislation regarding bitcoins still is lax and lacks clarity, but those who operate with this type of currency do not need to use the State, nor banks or any other institutions as intermediaries.
