The Colombian Ministry of Labour has been analysing the labour situation of Venezuelans who arrive at the country. The goal is to provide decent work conditions.

The vice minister, Fredys Socarrás, stated that an agenda will be presented to territorial organizations and every entity will be articulated in order to support Venezuelans.

A sensitive topic is the Special Residence Permit for Venezuelans, which the Ministry of Foreign Relations released on July 25th. The goal of this permit is to regularize those who are at Colombian territory with authorizations that are soon to be expired or already expired.

Socarrás said that this permit will only be available for Venezuelans who already wherein Colombian territory before July 25 2017.

Over 238 thousand Venezuelans could benefit with this document, and the impact on the labour market, according to the figures of the working population by June 2017, would be of 0.95%.

Socarrás added that the Regional Observatories of the Labour Market (ORMET) will provide information on the characteristics of the Venezuelan population in the country, in order to develop mechanisms for job offers.

Colombia receives hundreds of Venezuelans per day, who arrive at the country to purchase food, medicines, and other products that are short in their own country. The migratory flow includes a large number of people who expect to establish in Colombia, or who are travelling to other countries to escape Venezuela’s crisis, which has become more serious during the past four months given the protests that have left over a hundred dead people and the measures recently implemented by Maduro’s regime.
